Your Questions About Renewable Energy Companies
Lizzie asks…
what can an industrial engineering doing in field of Renewable energy?
Dear all
I study industrial and systems engineering and I really want to work on Renewable energies but unfortunately I could not find any common field between my field of study and Renewable energies.
I was wondering if you could guide me to find a common field.

I remember from a television program I watched, that a little realized truth is that everything that gets manufactured, has a design. Everything has to come about in some real way, and that happens by design; I suppose that is a way of saying, that everything and anything could be done in more than one physical way, so, a specific way–a design-always has to be chosen, to be devised.
With whole systems like with energy systems renewable or otherwise, wouldn’t that “design” be something amounting to some kind of engineering one?
So, wouldn’t any such system, and maybe whole lots of the components, really have to be created by “industrial engineering” or “systems engineering”?
Industrial engineering, or systems engineering: term I’m not sure I specifically understand, and i’d guess they could (?) be more to do with engineering huge systems like factories to work efficiently or correctly? Well if so, wouldn’t doing that for the renewable energy companies you mention, be a kind of work fitting what you’re looking for? Aren’t big companies constantly striving to keep those systems working, or improved?
Or smaller companies that might not have their own engineers of your sort, must have to hire some kind of outside company. Wouldn’t they, to get that done to make it possible for them to build…or even to plan to build.
Research and development itself, too, just to consult or for the consultants to consult with, too , right?
The last i heard, although probably engineers aren’t credited or sometimes even noticed all that much, our lack of ability (unlike on tv shows) to just wave a magic wand and bring things into being, must mean that engineers actually, are “everywhere!”
Susan asks…
Who are some important people in renewable energy history?
I need to do a biography on a significant person in renewable energy, but I can’t find anything on the Internet. Could you please send me a site where I can find a biography?

Look up T. Boone Pickens. He is a former oil man and corporate raider who has a ton of money and wants to do wind farms all over the place.
He became famous in the 1980’s be acquiring big oil companies then selling them off (in whole or in part) and made a ton of money.

Investment into Alternative Energy Research and Development
The US government must continue to back the expansion of the role of alternative energy research and development and its implementation by companies and homeowners. Although this writer believes in the reign of the free market and that that government is best which governs least, our current system has companies and people expecting federal backing of major initiative with direct investment, in the form of tax breaks, rebate incentives, and even direct central bank investment into the alternative energy industry.
The US and its citizenry need to invest all of the time and energy that they can spare to the conversion from a fossil fuel burning society to one that is green for several different reasons. The green economy will not harm the environment or the quality of our air like fossil fuel burning does. We can become the energy independent nation that we need to be by cutting away our need to import oil, especially oil that is produced by anti-American nations such as Iran. Ultimately, renewable energies and extremely efficient energies like atomic energy are far less expensive than the continuous mining and drilling for fossil fuels. If we do not invest in our future now, catastrophe awaits us. We are going to need to consume more energy than ever in our history as we sail into the 21st century and beyond our dependency on foreigners for meeting these energy needs only leaves us open to sabotage while draining our coffers in order to fill other nations’.
It can be argued that federal, state, and local governments should work in conjunction on the issue of alternative energy research and development and implement mandatory programs for new home construction and all home remodeling that stipulate the installation of alternative energy power sources eventually over a certain period of years transforming into 100% installation of alternative energy sources for any new home or corporate building as well as backing a similar program to have all new vehicles produced in the nation be hybrid vehicles or hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicles by the year 2020. All levels of government could also impose mandatory compliance laws on construction and utilities companies. The utility companies in all 50 states should be required to invest in alternative energy research and development while also being required to buy back, at fair rates, excess energy produced by homeowners through their use of alternative energy power sources. Strong financial incentives need to be in place for new companies to invest in developing renewable energies. This would not only make the US energy independent at the fastest possible rate, but it would stimulate the growth of the economy and provide tens of thousands of new, good-paying jobs for people.
Alternative energy generation in the forms of solar, wind, hydroelectric, biofuel, geothermal, and atomic alternative energy storage systems such as more efficient batteries and hydrogen fuel cells and alternative energy-furthering infrastructures with superior energy efficiency all need to be brought into the affordable price range through development. Government investment into these matters would surely help us along.
Your Questions About Renewable Energy Jobs
Ken asks…
Should I go to humboldt state university for Renewable energy engineering?
They have my major in environmental resources engineering (ERE) but is there program mediocre? I have the grades to go to a UC (4.1 gpa) but there are no UCs that have renewable energy engineering or (ERE). There is only researching and not ABET credited. So is humboldt a good school academically and will prepare me for a job?
admin answers:
My son was at humboldt for three years. For the better he enjoyed the curriculum but couldn’t stand the hippies and patchouli oil. He is serving our Navy. He racked up a hefty student debt at HSU. Good Luck
Chris asks…
How much renewable energy can be created and how many jobs would be created with 700 billion dollars?
Apparently the government has 700 billion dollars it’s willing to wage on the banking industry. I was wondering what the environmental and economical impact would be if they invested this kind of money in renewable energies.
admin answers:
The impact would be astronomical. As it is I am trying to fill in the last couple pieces to start a renewable energy (electricity, heating, etc) plant in my state (a plant that would only create a vast number of jobs for people in my state). If the government dedicated that money to scientific research and development of renewable energy our lives and ability to be “green” should only improve. However, keep in mind that technically the government doesn’t have 700 B dollars, but are borrowing it from The Federal Reserve and further increasing our national debt. However, if the invested the money in researching and developing renewable energy resources, it would create a vast number of jobs and possibly help our economy as technology and methods we discover could also be sold to other countries looking to improve their environmental and economic impact. On a personal note, I feel that the government should hold the Bank Heads financially responsible for bailing out their own banks since it was their greed that got us into this situation in the first place. Anyway, I hope I answered your question!
